Foreman and Cotto Rumored

It has been rumored on numerous websites that WBA light middleweight champion, Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KOs), will fight Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) on June 12, 2010 in Madison Square Garden. Both men are promoted by Top Rank.

Cotto, who is coming off of a loss against Manny Pacquiao last November, would be fighting above 147 pounds for the first time in his career. Foreman defeated Daniel Santos to win the WBA belt on the Pacquiao-Cotto undercard. Foreman was initially being considered as Pacquiao's next opponent after Pacquiao's proposed fight with Floyd Mayweather fell through. Pacquiao instead has chosen to battle welterweight Joshua Clottey.

Besides coming off of a loss, Cotto, from Puerto Rico, recently buried his father. June 12 is also the day before the Puerto Rican Day parade in New York. Add Foreman's belt up for grabs plus his own substantial following in New York and it produces an intriguing fight.
